Chopping and mashing magic A herb chopper with a round blade is great for cutting herbs faster and finer than scissors; also works wonders with cutting small bits of onions, etc., and is great for chopping nuts! Janice Montbriand, Prince George, B.C.
A potato masher is great for mashing bananas when you make banana bread and any other types of things like dates for date squares. Tammy Cockburn, Beaverton, Ont.
Cooking essentials A pressure cooker saves lots of time while cooking beans, lentils and vegetables without losing nutrition. It is the best tool I have in my kitchen and I really can't live without it. Jasjit Kaur, Edmonton, Alta.
A bread maker. Nothing says home like the smell of fresh bread baking. Harley McKew, Vernon, B.C.
I can't live without my cordless kettle. You can take it off of the base and carry it to where you need it. But most of all, I'm a coffee lover and really need this kettle. Lynda Robb, St. Alexandre, Que.
My husband bought me a new smooth-top range approximately six months ago. I tried everything and practically every product available to clean the burners on my old stove which I had used for 23 years. No matter how much elbow grease I put into it the burners always looked grungy. I hated for anyone to visit my kitchen.
I love to cook but using that old range with so many years of burned-on grease and food, took the pleasure out of cooking for me and I dreaded clean-up after meals because the burners were such a mess. I can't live without my new range and thank my husband every day for it. Deborah Gillis, Middleton, N.S.
My mixer. I use it for everything from mixing cakes, mashing potatoes to mixing hamburger meat. Cheryl Imayoshi, Kelowna, B.C.
My electric oil-base- filled 440 stainless frying pan, because you need little to no oil to fry, bake or cook anything in it. Douglas Klassoff, Saskatoon, Sask.
I can not live without my toaster oven. This is the handiest little appliance I have. I make toast and waffles for the kids in the morning, pizza for lunch, and it's great for cooking up appetizers. It is so handy to use instead of using the big oven...and it saves energy. Maria Daoust, Sudbury, Ont.
Coffee maker -- The average human can survive quite some time without food, about three days without fresh water but only a matter of hours without coffee in my house. Tracey Damaren, Guelph, Ont.
