By Homemakers.com

Where was the tomato first cultivated?
a) Italy
b) Canada
c) China
d) Mexico

The answer is d). With the abundance of tomato-infused sauces and such in Italian cooking, you may be surprised to find out that the tomato wasn't first cultivated in Italy. The tomato was first cultivated in Mexico. When the Spanish colonized the Americas, including Mexico in the 1500s, they introduced the tomato to Europe -- and then the Italians worked their magic with it.
