If there's ever been a time you wished you were a man, it was probably while you were suffering from a woman-only health problem. PMS, menopause, pregnancy worries -- these are experiences most women share.
Dr. Zhao recognizes the resentment many women have about their bodies, and in her book, she stresses that women have nothing to reject about their feminine selves and explains how they can develop new relationships with their bodies and their emotions. She emphasizes improving health through preventative care and lifestyle changes rather than relying on the quick fixes many people have come to expect in Western society.
The book includes an explanation of traditional Chinese philosophies about women's bodies, covering such topics as menstruation, sex, childbirth, breast health and menopause, and advocates a holistic, preventative and self-care-based approach to health, rather than one focused on treating symptoms. By making simple changes in diet, exercise routine, sex life and the way they deal with stress and emotions, Dr. Zhao says, women can profoundly improve their health now and into the future. -- Kat Tancock
