For many women, it's tough to find the right swimsuit style, fit and colour. While bathing suit shopping might not be your favourite thing to do, there are great ways to simplify your search and find the right suit for you.
Barbara McAdam, divisional vice president with Christina Swimwear Inc., reveals the hottest 2008 bathing suit trends and shares some secrets to finding the best swimsuit for your body type.
Homemakers.com: What are this year's trends in swimwear?
Barbara McAdam: The range of finishes includes an array of prints -- tribal, floral, geometric, and finishes in both sheen and matte. Customers should read labels and look for a higher percentage of spandex when buying a quality suit.
HM.com: What about trends in colour?
BM: Colours are diverse, from rich earth tones, deep jewel tones and island brights. Colour is a signature choice and needs to complement skin tone and work with wardrobe items.
HM.com: What styles are on trend this season?
BM: There is a definite migration toward the tankini and mix-and-match category. This allows you to purchase the best fit for top and bottom. Additionally, mix-and-match pieces create wardrobe options where updates can include additional purchases that coordinate with previously purchased items or having more than one look to your new purchase.
One-piece suits have incorporated many fit solutions and can have a two-piece appearance. HM.com: Are there trends in swimwear embellishments?
BM: A real trend this season includes fashion embellishments such as beading, sequins, metallic highlights and jewels. Embellishments create luxe looks, tribal flare and glam details to create sophistication and a complete look with swimwear this season.
HM.com: What mistakes do women often make when shopping for bathing suits?
BM: We all need to try on different sizes. Often, we assume that a size 10 will fit just like a size 10 jacket. Try on the 8; try on the 12. Take your time. Try new looks, break the rut and vary the neckline choice. Or, add a print or change the leg type that you always wear.
There has been so much change in swimwear and fit, try something different. Buy what you are comfortable in, but explore your options! You just might be surprised by how much the right look can flatter your figure.
