Couples' quiz: How well do you know your mate?

Find out if your partner is pleasantly predictable or full of surprises.

Put yourself and your partner to the test. Get some paper and a pen and write your answers -- as well as the answers you predict your mate will give -- to the following questions. Then, swap answers with your partner and see how many matching responses you have.

QUIZ QUESTIONS
• If money was no object, what would be your/his dream vacation?
• What's your/his favourite comfort food?
• If you/your mate unexpectedly came across $500, what would you/he spend it on?
• If you/he could go to dinner with anyone in history, who would it be?
• What is your/his most irritating habit?
• What do you/does he hate to do most around the house?
• If you/your mate had a Saturday with no commitments, how would you/he spend it?

We tested three couples with this quiz. We asked each person the questions in private so there was no hinting! Below are the best of their responses.

Dr. Marla Shapiro & Robert Berger
Dr. Marla Shapiro, family doctor and host of "Balance TV," and businessman Robert Berger have been married for more than 20 years; they have three kids.

ROBERT'S DREAM VACATION
He said: "On my own or with my boys, it would definitely be golf. But with my wife, something exotic."
She said: "Golf with someone like Tiger Woods or Jack Nicklaus."
MARLA'S DREAM VACATION
She said:
"Somewhere exotic, like Tahiti or a safari, where cellphones, e-mail and pagers couldn't reach me."
He said: "Someplace where there is no cellphone or e-mail, but it would have to be exotic like Bali or an African safari."

ROBERT'S FAVOURITE COMFORT FOOD
He said:
"A genoa salami and Brie cheese sandwich."
She said: "That's easy: a genoa salami and Brie cheese sandwich."
MARLA'S FAVOURITE COMFORT FOOD
She said:
"Chocolate covered almonds."
He said: "Chocolate almonds."

ROBERT'S DINNER DATE
He said:
"A visionary, an inventor, someone who's a leader of a great corporation, like Bill Gates."
She said: "Someone who's a real driver along the lines of Bill Gates."
MARLA'S DINNER DATE
She said:
"Someone who's left a mark on the world; a woman who has done great things. Someone like Golda Meir."
He said: "Hmm. She'd spend it with a woman of influence, someone who has changed the world."

ROBERT'S MOST IRRITATING HABIT
He said:
"Probably snoring."
She said: "It's not snoring. It's that he won't take the dry cleaning out to be done."
MARLA'S MOST IRRITATING HABIT
She said:
"Now! I have to have it, do it and get it done NOW. N-O-W!"
He said: "She can't stop with the e-mail and phone; she has to answer all messages right away."

ROBERT'S IDEAL SATURDAY
He said:
"Golf, at least 36 holes."
She said: "Golf, and he'd go for 54."
MARLA'S IDEAL SATURDAY
She said:
"Exercise, maybe a spinning class."
He said: "She'd do some exercise, then maybe go for some spa treatments."

SCORE: Robert, 6.5; Marla, 6 out of 7. With the highest score of all the couples, this duo has definitely not lost touch over the years.
