Fill your fridge with field-fresh strawberries, crisp carrots and other healthy treats from your local farmer's market.

The province that prides itself on being "unforgettable" certainly features more than its share of memorable markets. Whether you're looking for a basket of Saskatoon berries or a pocket full of peppers, these wonderful shopping destinations provide the best in homegrown fare.

Le Marché St. Norbert Farmers' Market

Where: 3514 Pembina Highway in Winnipeg
When: Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Wednesdays 3 p.m. to dusk, June through fall.
Why: St. Norbert's is one of the largest outdoor markets in the province, featuring more than 130 vendors and an assortment of buskers and activities to entertain the crowds. What's their motto? "Where we make it, bake it and grow it for you!"
What: Flowers and fresh produce make up a sizable chunk of what's on sale, but you can also find jams, preserves, honey, crafts and jewelry.

Pineridge Hollow Farmers' Market

Where: Situated on the sprawling grounds of Bird's Hill Provincial Park in Oakbank
When: Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., June through September.
Why: Surrounded by beautiful gardens, the fairly young market (established in 2004) operates at the Tea Room & Gift Shoppe, and specializes in local produce, cuisine and craftsmanship.
What: Choose from a variety of meats (including chicken and bison), baked goods, jams and a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables.

The Exchange District Farmer's Market

Where: At the corner of King and Bannatyne in Winnipeg's Exchange District
When: Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., July and September.
Why: The spirit of the Winnipeg's historic Civil Market is infused into this open-air market located in the heart of the city.
What: Locally grown fruits and vegetables are available, along with assorted meats, baked goods, bath and beauty products and crafts from area merchants.

The Red River Farmer's Market

Where: Located at the south end of the Red River Exhibition Park in Winnipeg
When: Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 28th through September.
Why: Brand-spanking new, this market is still in the process of accepting vendors, but promises a host of fresh local produce when it opens this summer. Check website for updates.
