What a gorgeous article. So beautifully written. I could feel the alternating cold, crisp, outside air and cool dampness of the illuminated barn. I could even smell the cobwebs swirled about buy the slightest draft. Thank you for taking me there in your blog. It was a wonderful experience.
What a great read- again. and of course a great topic. I would like to add 'That's some Pig' ;)
Again thank you for enriching my morning.

Hi Dana,
This is a wonderful article on so many levels. I love the picture you paint of the three vehicle caravan through the snow, and the stark contrast of the lifestyle of the people you're visiting. And you totally hit the mark with regard to supporting local artisans, farmers and ranchers. Books like Fast Food Nation and films like Super Size Me have had an impact on how and what people are consuming, but the simple logic of your article definitely hits home. People just can't continue buying huge lots of substandard food and eating their daily meals at fast food restaurants. It's only helping big agri-business companies, and hurting all of the rest of us physically, and the traditional food producers financially.

Very well done, and a good illustration of why we all read your columns!

Ah the pig farm, good for so much more than the lingering smell.

Thanks for sharing and reminding us, again, to think beyond the plate. Martin's book is obviously going to be gorgeous.
