In a survey cited by Headache Network Canada, 31 per cent of migraine sufferers blame their headaches on food triggers; 43 per cent say missing a meal can spark a migraine.
Apart from avoiding foods you associate with headaches, these general nutrition tips may also help:
-Eat a well-balanced diet (see Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating)
-Drink at least two to three litres of water each day
-Limit caffeine to the equivalent of one to two cups of coffee per day
-Don't skip meals; rather, eat smaller meals frequently (every four hours) to keep your blood sugar levels consistent.
-Choose low glycemic-index foods, such as whole grains, instead of higher-GI foods (refined flour).
