Touch up your hair and face

Life's a little more golden when you feel great. Glorious sunny days plus looking your best adds up to a wonderful summer. From top to toe, here's how get your outer -- and inner -- glow on.

1. Hair
Oh, big, frizzy, pouffy hair, how much do we adore thee? Not so much, so layer on the frizz-fighters. Start with smoothing shampoo and conditioner in the shower, then apply anti-frizz cream to damp hair. Wavy or curly? Use your favourite curl-enhancing mousse or gel then finish with an anti-frizz sealant or a misting of humidity-proof hair spray.

Try: John Frieda Weather Works by Frizz Ease: shampoo and conditioner, 300 mL, and Style Sealant Crème, 115 mL, each $9.99. TRESemmé Tres Two Extra Hold Hairspray, 119 g, $3.99. Joico Design Collection Humidity Blocker, 150 mL, $23.

2. Face
Other than SPF, the less on your face, the better. Consider an SPF moisturizer with a touch of self-tanner to even out skin tone, or a tinted moisturizer with an SPF. If you're an oil-slick in summer, pressed powder will help control shine and keep you from feeling sticky.Of course, summer 'tis the season for weddings. Start special-occasion makeup with primer for extra staying power, or try a makeup sealer.

Try: Olay Complete Touch of Sun Daily UV Facial Moisturizer SPF 15, 75 mL, $10.99. Cover FX Skin Tint FX Moisturizing Treatment & Tint SPF 30, 30 mL, $39. MAC Blot Powder/Pressed, 12 g, $24. Benefit "That Gal" Brightening Face Primer, 11 mL, $30. Clarins Fix Make-Up Spray, 30 mL, $30. Benefit She Lac liquid sealer for eye shadow, liner and mascara, 15 mL (plus four mini brushes), $34.

3. Eyes
Stay-put liquid liner and budge-not mascara deliver big impact in a wink. Play in the season's hot pool of colour by lining with bold purple, green, blue or metallic shades.

TIP: Line your upper lash line with brown pencil first, then go over it with liquid liner in small strokes.

As for mascara, new long-wear formulas hold up brilliantly in the face of humidity, oily lids, perspiration and leaky eyes, yet zip off with warm water.

Try: Gosh Extreme Art waterproof liquid liner in purple, bronze, copper, gold, blue, green or silver, 3 mL, $15. Clinique Lash Power Long Wearing mascara, 6 mL, $18. Cargo Better Than Waterproof Mascara, 10 mL, $20.

4. Cheeks
Two words: cheek stain. It's easy on bare skin or over tinted moisturizer, and looks completely natural, like an all-day after-sun flush.

Try: The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain, 8 mL, $16. Lise Watier Happy Face Tinted Cheek Gel, 10 mL, $20.

5. Lips
Yes, you need sun protection on your lips. Layer SPF balm over or under your favourite lip colour, or pick up a new shade of gloss or lipstick with built-in sunscreen.

Try: La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF 50 High-Protection UVA-UVB Lip Cream, 15 mL, $14.50; M.A.C Tendertone Lip Balm SPF 12, 6 mL, $17.50; Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF 15 lip gloss, 6 mL, $17.50; Smashbox Tinted Treatment Lipstick SPF 15, 3.5 g, $22.

Make your legs and feet shine

6. Nails
Gold is a sure thing for chic summer nails but this year, brights rule. Bright purple? Check. Day-glo green? Check. Neon yellow? Check. Get the picture?

Try: Chanel Nail Colour in Antilope (brushed gold), 13 mL, $25. Zoya Nail Polish in Whitney (bright pink), 14 mL, $8. Essie Shorty Pants (neon yellow) or Bermuda Shorts (purple), 15 mL, $11 each. OPI Dating a Royal (blue), Brights Power (orange) or Green-wich Village, 15 mL, $9.95 each.

7. Body
Feeling a mite jiggly? Slimming and shaping lotions (fancy terms for cellulite cream) these days can actually make a difference. They won't help you drop three bathing-suit sizes, but they'll help you look a little better in the size you wear.

Try: Biotherm Celluli Laser, 200 mL, $65. Nivea My Silhouette Slimming & Reshaping Gel-Cream, 200 mL, $14. Cake Beauty Better Bod Rub in Sweet Cheeks or Citrus Squeeze, 180 mL, $34.

8. Skin
Whether you hit the self-tanner or body-bronzer bottle or not, keep your skin smooth, baby. That means regular exfoliation and moisturizing for gleaming, sexy limbs.

TIP: An exfoliating cloth saves pennies because you can use it with regular cleanser or soap -- no sugar scrub required.

Try: Dermalogica Ultimate Buffing Cloth, $24. Venus Pure Divine Shimmering Embrace Moisturizing Body Wash with Shimmering Highlights, 295 mL, $6.99. Clarins Self Tanning Instant Gel, 150 mL, $35.

9. Legs
Summertime is no time for stubble. Hit the razor -- specifically a multi-blade razor, which delivers super-smoothness that actually lasts longer than results from a regular disposable. Then put your silky gams in the spotlight with a little extra bronzing glow.

Try: Gillette Venus Embrace razor, $15.99 including shower pod and extra cartridge. The Body Shop Body & Leg Shine, 55g, $18.50.

10. Feet
It's your duty to humankind to expose feet only when they're at their prettiest so keep them buffed, soft, comfortable and well-groomed.

Try: Deserving Thyme Moisturizing Foot Soak, 112 g, $18. Tweezerman Pedro Callus Stone, $24. McBloom's Spa Treatment Nourishing Foot Cream, 60 mL, $7. Upper Canada Soap Peppermint Foot Therapy, 210 mL, $10.

Think you won't get out of the house before Thanksgiving if you have to do all this? You don't have to do it all in one day!

Start here: Spritz yourself liberally with Marc Jacobs Splash in Grapefruit, 300 mL, $80, a chic bottle of fresh citrus scent. Rumour has it, the scent of pink grapefruit on a woman makes men think she's six years younger than she is. The juice in this Grapefruit only looks pink, but we think it's worth a try. And see? That didn't take long, did it?
