Key makeup trends for spring 2010
There's just something about spring that invites you to reinvent your look. As you put winter behind you, put your best face forward as you prepare for the spring and summer months to come.
Want to know which spring makeup looks are hot? Rick DiCecca, Estee Lauder's global makeup stylist, reveals the greatest makeup trends for spring 2010.
Homemakers.com: What are the key makeup trends for spring 2010?
Rick DiCecca:
For the face
Luminous skin with hints of soft shimmer along the cheekbones, under the brow bone and at the temples. Shimmer may also be applied to décolleté and collarbone. Later in the spring, you'll see softly bronzed skin with a hint of peach/pink on the "apples" of the cheeks.
For the eyes
Shimmering shades or beige and coffee. At night, shimmering shades of white and charcoal. Later in the spring season, you'll see shimmering metallic shades for eyes in bronze, turquoise, magenta and bright metallics.
For the lips
Soft shades of peach, coral, rose and fuchsia in creamy lipsticks and in shimmering lip glosses.
HM.com: What products should every woman have in her makeup bag this season?
RD: Every woman should have three essential products in her makeup bag for spring 2010: A great bronzer such as Estee Lauder's Bronze Goddess Exotic Bronzing Blush, a sheer candy-coloured lip gloss and a bright shimmer eye shadow in a cream or powder formula to add a bit of glamour to your spring look.
HM.com: How would you describe the new looks/colours for spring 2010?
RD: "Polished", "Hollywood" and "glamour" are the three words that best describe spring 2010. The looks and colours for spring have something for everyone.
The skin has a soft matte look. On the cheeks and lips, there are soft shades of coral and rose. The eyes are softly defined in shades of beige and grey. If you choose a bright dramatic eye, then play down your lips in nude, beige or rose shades. If you're going for a bold and bright lip shade, play down your eyes in shades of brown or beige.
As the summer blooms and we're sporting a tan, this is a great time to wear bright shades of turquoise, magenta or bronze on the eyelids. For some women, this is a lot of colour; for them, I suggest a shimmering beige shade. Remember, the effect you want is a soft wash of colour. Think soft shimmer; not disco ball!
