Holiday dresses: Colours, fabrics and embellishments
What colours are leading the trends this season? And what about fabrics and embellishments? Keeler offers a breakdown of what's in style this year.
Colours
• Plum, magenta, navy, rich jewel tones, metallics, grey, red and black.
Fabrics
• Satin, taffeta, matte jersey, velvet, all-over sequins
• A skinny figure looks best in a dress made from a textured fabric instead of a slinky material.
Embellishments
• Beaded necklines
• Sheen, shine and sparkle; on fabrics look for crystals and sequins
• Grecian side or centre drapery in the form of gathers, tucks and pleats
• Embellishments draw attention to particular areas of the body so make sure they're exactly where you want them to be
Holiday dresses: Length
While long (maxi), short (mini) and knee-length are all popular dress lengths, Keeler suggests letting the event you're attending dictate the length of your dress. However, she does say that knee-length is the most versatile.
Holiday dresses: Must-have accessories
Need to give your dress some oomph? Here's what Keeler recommends:
• Red lips
• Statement jewelry (only with simple dress styles): embellished necklaces and bracelets, cocktail rings, chandelier earrings
• Clutch: colourful with frills, pleats, beading
• An elegant shawl is perfect on bare shoulders
• Hosiery: sheer, lace, or even opaque
• A faux fur topper is the perfect complement to any outfit
