Summertime is finally upon us and you may have an abundance of outdoor parties to attend. Unfortunately, it's tricky to get your makeup to stay put when it's hot, humid and sticky. But fear not, makeup pro Kevin Smith offers five tips on how to avoid that heavy, greasy feeling.
Remember, minimal makeup is best in hot-weather months, but if you have to polish up for a special occasion, here's how to look freshly pretty despite the heat.
Heat-proof tips
• “Blot papers are a must to absorb oil and moisture before applying or touching up makeup,” says makeup pro Kevin Smith, who has worked with actors Naomi Watts and Kim Cattrall.
• Start with foundation primer to keep skin fresh and help makeup stay put.
• “Cheek stains and gels are tricky at first,” advises Smith. “But a little practice yields a fade-proof natural flush.”
• Pressed powder over makeup (on lids, too) minimizes shine and boosts staying power.
• You'll need a few touch-ups throughout the day, but Smith sees those as “moments for yourself.”
