This season's best colours and details
Fashion trends may come and go but injecting a few new pieces into your spring wardrobe is sure to add, well, a spring to your step! This season's trends run the gamut from military-inspired looks to softer, more romantic pieces.
A few key items will keep your wardrobe up-to-date and exciting. Tara Wickwire, Gap Inc. spokesperson, reveals what’s on trend this season and shares advice on how to get the look this spring.
Homemakers.com: What are some of the leading fashion trends for spring 2010?
Tara Wickwire: Some of the top trends we are seeing this spring include military, romanticism, denim, nudes and blush tones, and tribal chic.
Homemakers.com: What colours and colour combinations are hot this season?
TW: Denim on denim is a huge trend. This is the time to mix a denim shirt with your favourite pair of jeans. Aim for contrasting shades of denim and add a rich brown leather belt to break up the look. Nude and blush tones are also hot -- they are everywhere and look fresh this season. As part of the military trend, khaki and olive greens are must-haves.
Homemakers.com: What is this season’s-must-have wardrobe item?
TW: A military jacket is a great place to start this season. It’s a perfect way to update your wardrobe. The second item to invest in is a denim shirt.
Homemakers.com: What is definitely OUT this season?
TW: Sack dresses!
Homemakers.com: What fabrics are popular?
TW: Cottons and silks, as well as lightweight leather pieces, including jackets, blazers and skirts. These add instant "edge" to your look.
Homemakers.com: What about the details? Are we seeing lots of embellishments on clothing or simple, clean lines?
TW: Tie-dye is a pattern that is emerging for the season. Sequins worn from day to night are also big. Add a bit of shine to your look with a sequin vest, for example.
