If you happened to invest in a few new pieces for your summer wardrobe, you may be on the hunt for a stylish pair of sandals to complete some looks. But before you hit the stores, check out what's hot, hot, hot this summer and on trend in footwear.

Leading trends in sandals for summer 2010
Some trends are leading the way this season, while others are definitely on their way out the door. According to Giannou, natural materials like cork, rope and wood are popular looks for sandals this summer, while snake print and patent leather have fallen out of vogue.
But the natural trend doesn't have to mean boring. Giannou says that this season's looks feature ankle detailing, pleating, knots and straps. Gladiator sandals got a revamp this season, emerging in a variety of new spinoffs, from knee-high versions to sexy stilettos.
"The caged, strappy sandals are everywhere," says Giannou. Natural leathers and soft nubuck are another trend that Giannou says is big this season.
Colours
This season, popular colours run the gamut from bright coral and green to more subdued neutrals like beige and taupe, says Giannou.
How high can you go?
While summer is often synonymous with ultra-comfortable flip-flops, this season it's all about height. "If I had to pinpoint one key style this season, it would definitely be wedges, in all heel heights," says Giannou. A close second would be platform sandals, she says.
Embellishments
Keep your feet looking fancy in sandals that sport pretty embellishments. "You will see mother-of-pearl stones and beads on many styles this season," says Giannou. "Ghillie lacing is also really popular."
