Making time for romance

Ah romance, the tingly feeling that makes you feel that you're wanted. Whether it's dancing with the one you love under a star-filled sky or the twinkle in your eyes when you catch a glimpse of him from afar, romance can make the world seem to melt away for just the two of you - at least for a moment. But in a world of day-timers and endless business commitments, it can be difficult to find the time to indulge in a little one-on-one time.

To all the romantically challenged: Don't lose hope. Cyndi Haynes and Dale Edwards have a tool to keep you in the game of love. They are the authors of 2002 Romantic Ideas: Special Moments You Can Share With the One You Love. Often the busiest couples, the ones with children, need to understand that their kids' place comes after the spouse, Haynes says. "Their [children's] happiness relies on the relationship their parents have with each other."

Haynes stresses the importance of communication in any relationship and says couples should routinely meet somewhere quiet to talk. She also offers these suggestions for couples under time constraints:

Make time - Make your relationship a priority.

Date at unusual times - Whether you're married or single, make breakfast dates, brunch dates or meet each other for drinks after work. You can keep the dates short.

Hire help - Hire a babysitter or someone to cut the lawn and use the time to do things together.

Spend time alone together - It's important to reconnect with your spouse and let him or her know what's going on in your life. Go out and do things one-on-one.

Anyone can be romantic, Haynes says. "It takes someone with a gentle, caring heart. Someone who cares about the person they love more than — or just as much as -- themselves."

It could only take a little creativity and effort to come up with a few romantic ideas to use in your relationship. After all, Haynes and Edwards were able to come up with 2,002.

How do you manage a few moments alone with your spouse? Share your tips with other readers in our forums.
