Heat up your love life

While shovelling the driveway, walking through slush and defrosting the windshield, it's difficult to appreciate the romance of the season. But what other time of year necessitates cuddling with a loved one for warmth? Five couples share what they do to get the home-fires burning.

Hibernate and take in the view
We went to the Eastern Townships (Quebec) and stayed at a beautiful inn, on a lake, with a view of snow-capped mountains. Our room had a fireplace and a whirlpool bath, but the most romantic moment was having breakfast in bed while looking out at the cross-country ski trails and knowing we could stay curled up as long as we liked!
- Catherine, 29, and Andre, 32.

Compromise and vary destinations
We came up with a perfect combination-trip: for her, three nights camping at Killarney Provincial Park (Ontario), and for him, three nights in cosy bed-and-breakfasts on Manitoulin Island — hot showers and yummy meals. We both got our wish and the sparks flew!
- Marsha, 30, and Randy, 33.

Stay cosy and enjoy nature
There are some beautiful places to stay at Long Beach, between Tofino and Ucluelet (British Columbia), such as The Middle Beach Lodge and the Wickaninnish Inn. The winter storms along the coast are great to watch, curled up by the fire.
- Terri, 33 and Howard, 32.

Share sports and share the blanket
Winter means more down time together. When we get home from cold outdoor sports, we'll share a hot shower, turn down the lights, get into flannel pyjamas and snuggle under a fleece throw.
- Shari, 29, and John, 33.

Take the open road and take in the scenery
We were married in February and had the most amazing honeymoon. Our first night was at the Château Laurier in Ottawa, then we drove to Mont Tremblant (Quebec). It was a clear, sunny day; the scenery was magical. We spent the week trying to convince each other to get out of bed to go skiing - with little success.
- Dian, and Tim, 35.
