5 Tips For Last Minute Holiday Shoppers

Homemakers Furniture Store holiday display of green furniture and Christmas decor

Last-minute holdiay shoppers are not a special breed of shoppers, they're the norm. Often waiting for bigger deals, expecting a Christmas bonus, or just plain procrastinating as the clock ticks can create undo stress.

Putting Christmas shopping off doesn't have to make you fret. Here are five helpful tips to get the late gift hunters off to a good, albiet late start.

Tips For Last-Minute Shoppers

1) Make a written plan: create a list of gifts for each person on your list and check it twice.

2) Click and Collect: Go online and pick up in-store. This will help you stick to your list and keep you from adding impulse buys to the shopping cart.

3) Click and Ship: Order online and have it shipped directly to the address of those who live at a distance, or to the home of the festivities so you have less to carry the eve of the festivities.

4) Be flexible with your strategy: What you origninally added to your list may be sold out late in season, so add a back up gift to that list or pick up a gift card and tuck it into a small item or ornament.

5) Get those gift cards: they're perfect gifts for the person who is impossible to shop for, providing you know what their interests are or where they like to shop.

Who Are These Last-Minute Shoppers

  • The procrastinators - They just put evey off until the last minute.
  • Deal hunters - Some holiday shoppers thrive on the hunt of the best of holiday deals.
  • Thrill Seekers - to these folks, nothing is more fun than racing the clock. It's exciting for them to see if they can squeeze it all in before the festivities begin. This may have a subconsious element to it, but it's how they operate.
  • The Overwhelmed - With no clear plan, the sheer volume of options can lead them to delay until no time is left.
  • The Self Shopper - Demographic data shows that younger shoppers are picking things up for themsleves and forego traditional gift shopping.
