|
You can make these well-spiced burgers with either turkey or pork. Serve on a bun with lettuce and tomatoes.

Ingredients

2 tbsp (30 mL) bourbon or Tennessee whisky |
|
|
|
2 tbsp (30 mL) tomato ketchup |
|
|
|
1 tbsp (15 mL) fancy molasses |
|
|
|
1 egg |
|
|
|
1 small onion, minced |
|
|
|
2 cloves garlic, minced |
|
|
|
1/4 cup (60 mL) dry bread crumbs |
|
|
|
1 tbsp (15 mL) chili powder |
|
|
|
1 tsp (5 mL) dried crumbled sage |
|
|
|
1/2 tsp (2 mL) salt |
|
|
|
1 lb (500 g) ground turkey |
|
|
|
4 slices smoked cheese |
|
|
|
Pickled jalapeño peppers |

Preparation
|
|
In large bowl, whisk together whisky, ketchup, molasses and egg; mix in onion, garlic, bread crumbs, chili powder, sage and salt. Mix in turkey; shape into 4 patties.
Pan-fry or grill over medium heat, turning halfway through and placing slice of cheese on top, until no longer pink inside and digital thermometer inserted sideways into centre reads 175°F/80°C, about 15 minutes. Top with peppers.
Makes 4 servings.
