How to train like an Olympic athlete
For 17 days every two years, Canadians are mesmerized as the world's best athletes compete in hundreds of Olympic sporting events. Some are as familiar to us as hockey, but others generally fly under the radar, like pentathlon and long jump.
But no matter the sport, Canada's athletes make us proud when they're competing. They spend long hours training before they get to the Olympics and look great when they're in action! If taekwondo and judo caught your eye during the summer Olympics, you might want to try martial arts for a kick-butt workout.
Or, if you envy the toned bodies of swimmers and divers, hop into a pool or lake for a great water workout. You can do many of the same moves in the pool as you can on land, but water adds extra resistance and is a fun way to keep cool while you exercise.
Whether it's around a track or around the block, running is a great cardio workout. It's a great exercise to burn lots of calories and starting a running program is easy.
If you'd rather hit the road on wheels than on foot, get on your bike! Cycling for fitness will help strengthen your leg muscles, but is great for cardio, too. Add a new dimension of challenge by mountain biking -- one of the Olympic sports at which Canada's female athletes often excel.
The secrets to sexy arms start with weight lifting. After a few curls and raises, you'll look like you belong on the Canadian women's softball team!

No matter what type of workout you choose, one of the most important lessons we can learn from our Olympic athletes is dedication. Keep your workout interesting to maintain motivation.
Good luck!
