In countries where food or water may be contaminated by bacteria, viruses or parasites, you might discover an unwelcome tagalong on your much-needed vacation: traveller's diarrhea.
While common and certainly unpleasant and inconvenient, traveller's diarrhea usually resolves itself with a bit of time. More serious health problems can result if you become dehydrated, so keep your fluids up.
Avoid traveller's diarrhea by:
-Drinking only bottled water (check to make sure the seal around the cap isn't broken), carbonated soft drinks or hot drinks (tea/coffee); avoid tap water and ice cubes
-Avoid unpasteurized milk
-Eat only fruits that can be peeled -- and peel them yourself
-Avoiding tepid meat or shellfish -- it should be hot!
