Holiday dresses: the best styles
All winter we're bundled up to fend off the cold air outside and keep warm. But holiday parties give you great excuses to unload the layers and dress to impress. As you prepare for the season, find out what's on trend for holiday 2009 party dresses. Robin Keeler, fashion director at Toronto's Yorkdale Mall reveals what's hot for this cold festive season!
"Women have always loved the way a dress is so easy to wear," says Keeler. "It is one unbroken line from top to bottom and therefore the most slimming garment made."
Holiday dresses: The best styles
Keeler identifies some of this season's hottest looks:
Sheath dress
• Women of many different shapes can wear figure-hugging, close-fitting style.
• The sheath dress is feminine and enhances a woman's curves. With or without a belt it is neat; perfect when worn with one or two eye-catching accessories.
One-shoulder dress
• The one-shoulder look is dramatic, sophisticated and red carpet -ready.
• There are many different one-shoulder styles so try styles on until you find the best one for you. Keep the rest of the look simple.
Strapless dress
• If it fits perfectly, this look is so feminine.
• Small-busted women find strapless styles easy to wear because they don't need serious undergarments.
• Women with wide shoulders should avoid this look altogether, as it brings too much attention to the shoulder area.
Little black dress
• Classic, slimming and always appropriate the LBD looks like a different dress on different people.
• The accessories such as jewelry and shoes help set each dress apart.
• This dress is versatile and ageless and can be worn for most any occasion
Tunic dress
• For fall and winter, the shimmery, shiny tunic is the perfect choice for eveningwear.
• This dress provides ease and comfort as it does not bind or constrict the body.
• For a cool vibe, wear with opaque hosiery.
