How to save water

Could you do more to cut your water bill? Find out how easy it is to save water and dollars at the same time.

By Aileen Brabazon

Even though water freely flows from your faucets, the earth doesn't have an endless supply of H20. Environmentalist David Suzuki reports that one in four Canadian municipalities have struggled with water shortage in the last five years, and climate change is sure to make things worse. So, start saving water today!

There are simple ways to save water at home:
-Turn off the tap when you brush your teeth and wash dishes
-Take short showers
-Water your lawn no more than every four days during the summer and do so early in the morning or late at night to avoid excess evaporation
-Fix leaky taps
-Use a low-flow showerhead

When it's time to replace your water-powered appliances, such as your toilet and dishwasher, choose updated, H20-efficient models. For more great eco-living tips, pick up a copy of David Suzuki's Green Guide or visit davidsuzuki.org.
