2024 Deep Cleaning Schedule

Published: January 02, 2024

Homemakers is here with a cleaning schedule to keep your space tidy and neat all year long.

Monthly Tasks

  • Dusting

Wipe down and dust light fixtures, ceiling fans, floorboards, furniture, and corners. Make sure to get forgotten nooks and crannies. Don’t let underneath rugs go neglected.

  • Bedding, sheets, and pillows

Wash all bedding, sheets, pillows, and mattress covers.

  • Clean and sanitize garbage cans

Empty and clean all indoor and outdoor trash bins. Stock up on liners if you haven’t done so recently and invest in an air freshener or fragrance to keep odors neutral.

  • Wash curtains and blinds

Remove and launder curtains (you can likely fit these in with your sheets or pillows!) and wipe down blinds. This is also a great time to do a more frequent cleaning task and wash your windows.

  • Vacuum and clean upholstery

Use a vacuum cleaner attachment to clean sofas, chairs and other upholstered furniture.

Quarterly Tasks

  • Deep clean carpets and rugs

Steam cleaning or shampooing carpets and rugs is especially important if you have pets or are prone to spills at home! When you’re done cleaning the rugs, hang them to dry outside if it’s a sunny day outside.

  • Wipe down walls

Spot clean or wash walls to remove smudges and marks.

  • Clean vents and ducts

Vacuum or dust vents and look into having your vents professionally clean. This is ideal especially for homes with pets to keep air free of dander and allergens.

  • Organize and declutter

Go through closets, drawers, and storage spaces to declutter and reorganize. Try to part with belongings you have no use for or haven’t used in a while.

  • Clean and condition leather furniture

If you have leather furniture, clean and condition it to maintain its appearance.

Bi-annual or Annual Tasks

  • Deep clean windows

Clean window interiors and exteriors, including sills and frames.

  • Clean and vacuum behind furniture

Move large furniture and appliances to clean behind and underneath it.

  • Clean and polish wood furniture

Wood furniture needs a little bit of upkeep to keep things looking polished and fresh.

  • Deep clean mattresses

Vacuum and spot clean your mattress to remove dead skin, stains, and dust. This step will be made easier with the use of a mattress protector.

  • Clean and organize garage space or storage areas

Declutter, organize, and get rid of items you no longer need so they aren’t forgotten in storage spaces.

Regardless of your goals and aspirations for the New Year, keep your head and space clear from clutter with this deep cleaning schedule. Stay neat and tidy all year round.
