Summer Activities for 2020

Let’s be honest, 2020 hasn’t exactly gone the way we planned it and with everything that’s been going on it’s difficult to find a sense of normalcy. Now, the summer activities we once had are a constant guessing game. But don’t fret! We’ve gathered some things to do during summer that will help keep you occupied, safe, and sane during your summer adventures. So, find your happy place with online yoga classes, master the art of baking, or bust out that new ice cream maker you got off amazon and say hello to summer 2020!

Experience the Great Outdoors

What better way to spend summer than outdoors? It’s what we wait for all year, right? So, when it finally gets here, we should definitely take advantage of it. No matter where you are in the country, there’s bound to be hiking trails, mountains, or parks you can visit to give yourself a different scenery than the four walls of your house. Iowa has some of the best trials for walking, hiking, and biking and even have great parks for camping, fishing, and more! No more laying around the house eating chips and watching TV. It’s time to get out, get moving and get those endorphins pumping! Just don’t forget your sunscreen!

Try Out That New Cooking or Cocktail Recipe

We’ve all got that one recipe we’ve always wanted to try. You know, the one that has a ton of ingredients and needs a lot of time to prepare. Well, why not try it out now? It takes practice to completely master a cooking or cocktail recipe but with some patients and a pinch of fun, you could find you signature dish! Plus, the family won’t know what hit them during Granny’s Thanksgiving dinner. Check out our recent blog on 5 Quick and Easy July 4th Desserts with USA themed food you have to try!

Take an Online Yoga Class

It’s important to keep your body healthy this summer, but it’s also important to keep your mind healthy too. Yoga is a great form of exercise to increase blood flow, promote flexibility, and helps relieve stress, anxiety, and depression. And it’s one of the many summer activities you can partake in by joining in online. You can do it from the comfort of your home or in your backyard and it works just the same as if you were in person. Not totally into yoga? No worries! There are hundreds of other exercise classes you can take online too!

Redecorate That One Room

Ashley Coralayne King Bedroom Set

We’re all about redecorating here at Homemakers and we have everything you need to give your home the makeover it needs. Whether you’re creating your own space, changing a room, or just need to completely organize your home, we have some tips to get you started.

The Basics

No matter what you’re doing, you need to first identify the color palette you want your room to be. Some people match their colors to the seasons, others to their taste, however, there’s no wrong answer. Choose colors that you’re comfortable with and that give you the aesthetic you want. But, don’t be afraid to experiment with other colors out of your comfort zone!

The Furniture

Everyone’s got their taste in furniture. However, the biggest tip here is understanding that placement is just as important for furniture as it is choosing your furniture. Our Room Planner is a great tool that helps you strategically plan where your furniture will be.

The Décor

The decorations are the final touch to your masterpiece. They should tie your entire room together and suit your taste completely. You can never go wrong with pillows or blankets for an added layer to your interior and DO NOT forget about your walls, they need some love too.

Become a Plant Parent

If you haven’t already got your own garden or collection of plant babies, I highly encourage you to start. Having or maintaining a plant can be difficult but is super fun when you get the hang of it! Start off with something that’s low maintenance and small like a succulent or cactus. These types of plants don’t need as much TLC and are more forgiving of your forgetfulness or neglect. Once you feel more confident about your parenting skills, expand your family! Other summer activities that are great for keeping you occupied include creating your own garden.

These summer activities are all the rage for 2020. Whether you’re stuck at home or stuck at work, spend some time doing things that make you genuinely happy or try something new with these things to do during summer!
